What surprised you the most while writing this book?
I LOVED WRITING! It just came so natural. Publishing is a whole different story, though! I have not got that part figured out yet, haha!
Why did you pick the setting you used for your book?
It is my dream to go to New York City, so I highly enjoyed researching the setting in order to write as factually as possible. I hope to one day visit the city!
What is the sexiest trait of your hero(s)?
Davis is dark, green-eyed and handsome with nicely fitted clothes that hug every muscle on his perfect body. It is usually his expensive cologne that get’s Beverly every time she is in close quarters with him.
What is your favorite scene/moment in your book?
My favorite scene is probably when Davis and Beverly go to the rooftop flower garden. I don’t want to give too much away, but let’s just say that is when the things finally get steamy!
What scene did you have to cut but wish could have been included?
Well, I hope to include in Book two, so I will leave the curious minds to wander.
Tropes get a bad name, but they’re often the biggest draw for readers. What tropes do you love to write and read?
Probably irony. I love sarcasm and irony falls right into that bucket.
What are your favorite genres/sub-genres to write in? Are there any you love to read but cannot write in?
My favorite genre to write is definitely romance as of now. I do love to read horror and mystery, though. I have not tried to write those genres as of now.
Which do you love to write best: dialogue, setting, action, love scenes, or other?
I love to write dialogue. I sometimes struggle writing the setting and action. I hope to grow in this area as my writing career grows.
Which do you hate to write: dialogue, setting, action, love scenes, or other?
Probably the setting. I am so bad at description sometimes. I have to read, rewrite, read, write more, read again, write again. It’s just a battle sometimes.
Excerpt from Love Me, Lust Me Not
BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.
My eyes fling open at the sound of that dreadful alarm. Another Monday. Another dreaded work week. Today is especially awful, though. I have a big presentation to give at the office that I have been planning for weeks, and I am absolutely dreading it!
This is going to be a fun day. Sarcasm rolls through me as I check my phone. No new messages, surprisingly.
As soon as my feet hit the cold floor, I want to fall back into my huge, soft bed, but I push on. Shower. Clothes. Hair. Makeup. Jewelry. In that order. My daily routine.
“Fake it until you make it, right?” I ask myself in the mirror as I stare at the stranger looking back at me. Slathered on makeup, fancy suit dress, expensive-looking jewelry, even though it’s really from the discount jewelry store down the street. Do you even eat? You’re skin and bones! You are what you are perceived as, right? At least in my corporate world, that is the case.
Downstairs in my large New York City apartment, my preset coffee maker is just finishing up. I make my way down, and no sooner than my feet hit the bottom step, my phone rings. Without looking at the caller ID, “Hello, this is Beverly,” I cheerfully say in my fake customer service voice. I pour my pot of coffee into a large cup as I anticipate the voice on the other end of the phone.
“Beverly! You are not going to believe what happened this weekend!” Oh, it’s Sheila, the office gossip, who also happens to be my best friend. I really don’t have time for this right now, though, because I have a big presentation to get my mind ready for.
“Sheila! You are up early, girl! Can we talk at the office later? I am running behind! See you soon!” I quickly go to hang up the phone. “Beverly, this can’t wait…” Disconnected.
Maybe I should have listened for a minute. Well, guess I will find out if I live to regret hanging up or not.
I sit down at the bar that overlooks my kitchen and look through my meeting notes one last time as I drink my piping hot, black coffee. I have been preparing for this meeting for months, but today’s meeting could make or break my career! At this point, I have done as much as I can do. Have faith, Beverly. You are so ready for this! I pep-talk myself as I grab my laptop bag and head out the door.
