The two romances from When a Wolf Howls continue to evolve in this one. Diego has now taken over as pack leader for the Northwest Maine pack, and his wife Saoirse is pregnant, which makes him happy–yet like any man facing first-time fatherhood, he’s worried since he doesn’t want to lose her–or the baby. Saoirse’s best friend Freddie is thrilled that John has moved off the Northwest Maine Academy grounds to live with him in Boston. But they have a major disagreement that needs to be settled. And John’s wolf wants him to share their secret duality with Freddie, who like Saoirse, is a medical person not inclined to believe in creatures of the night–like werewolves. Both of the new romances are interracial. Grant is one of the hunters from Canada. When Diego needs someone to take John’s place in the hierarchy of the pack, Grant volunteers to move in because his wolf told him that the black she-wolf they saw the last time they were on the grounds, is their mate. He has no idea what she looks like as a human. As it turns out, Monique’s a widow with children, so she ignores her wolf’s desires, stalling because she fears her children won’t be able to accept a new man. And Nathan, who is on the book cover, hasn’t had any love in his life since his parents disowned him when he told them there was a wolf inside of him. When his wolf mates with an unfamiliar wolf he has security let onto the grounds one night, he’s thrilled to finally have found love–until he wakes up in the morning
Give us the one to two sentence tagline for your book.
Finding a mate can be difficult when you’re a werewolf. Your inner wolf often chooses for you. What happens when the human part of you isn’t ready? Or if the chosen mate doesn’t agree?
What is your favorite scene/moment in your book?
There are a few–but the moment when James confesses to his mom and her new mate Grant, why he’s been acting so weird was one where I cried while writing.
How do you use magic in your book?
The whole idea of a person having a wolf’s mind in theirs is magical. And that wolf can and will take over your body, even if you don’t want it to–and it will remake the body into a wolf, so they can exist. Magic and kind of freaky!
Would your hero enjoy pumpkin spice lattes, candy corn, or apple bobbing?
Maybe the lattes.
What costume would your heroine (or hero if MM) wear to a halloween party?
Saoirse dressed as a gypsy for Halloween in the first book. Monique would be a witch–or cross-dress as a man, like Robin Hood. NIsha dresses in exotic costumes for her stage performances, so I think she’d prefer to sit home and give out candy.
What scene did you adore writing in this book?
The birth of the pack leader’s baby was fun to write. I love my heroes!
Is this book a spooky/scary PNR, or a cozy/snuggling with a monster PNR?
Cozy/snuggling with a werewolf PNR.
What is your favorite monster to write?
I did enjoy creating my vampires. But I love my werewolves.
If you had to pick, would you rather have fangs, claws, or wings?
Fangs–I’ve always been a huge fan of vampire romance.
Halloween’s coming. Do you do anything special to celebrate?
Not really. Husband is the HUGE Halloween fan, pushing me out of the way so he can get the door, to admire all of the kids in costume.
Excerpt from Worth The Wait
Saoirse got up and walked over to Diego, who turned to face her. He put his arms around her, and rested his face against her almost full-term belly. She pulled off the band he tied his hair back with, stroking the silky strands.
“Is that how mopey you would have been, if I’d have rejected you?”
He looked up at her to gaze seriously into her eyes. “No. I doubt I’d have had the time to mope. I’d have been killed in the first challenge.”
Her eyes grew wide, as both of her loves watched her through Diego’s eyes.
“Then I’m really glad I didn’t let you scare me off, with your talk of life-time commitment and all.”
He smiled, then rested his face against her belly again, just in time to feel a small body part push against him.
“What’s that? You don’t want me snuggling your mommy so closely? Too bad, little one. She was mine before she was yours. And long after you grow up and move out of our house, she will still be mine. I’m glad to share her with you, for now. But she is now, and will always be, mine.”
He rose up to take Saoirse into his arms, tilting her head up to kiss her passionately. When she leaned back, her eyes were dreamy, and her lips were puffy from kissing.
“Yes, my love?”
“I’ve read that you can get things moving along nicely with labor, by doing what got you into this in the first place.”
His lips quirked up on the edges, and his eyes sparkled. “Is that a fact?”
“Well, it’s what I’ve read. And you don’t have any pressing appointments right now, do you?”
He shook his head, taking her hand and leading her out of the office. He purposefully pulled her down the hall to the master bedroom.
I sub in high schools during the school year. Otherwise I’m writing and blogging about my books–and reading. Not only do I write erotic romance, I love to read it too.
I often read while camping with my long-time HEA. Our four adult kids sometimes join us.” Shinrin-yoku” is “forest bathing” in Japanese, and as long as there’s no snow on the ground, that’s where I’ll be and what I’ll be doing.
I also enjoy sewing, crocheting, and baking.
