First Kiss Friday

Today’s first kiss comes from So Close by Renee Regent

Can best friends turned enemies finally become lovers?

Her soft breath quickened, as did my pulse. There was that moment of hesitation—should we? Is this really happening, or will she be upset? Seconds stretched to infinity as we stood there, our lips nearly touching. When I saw the slant of her eyelids closing, and the infinitesimal tilt of her head, I moved forward and did what I had wanted to do for as long as I could remember.

I kissed her.

Slowly at first, wanting to savor every moment. Still worried she might stop, I held back but gained confidence with every passing second. The tentative meeting of our lips, so warm and tender, gave way to a firmer pressure as we tightened our embrace. When her lips parted and her tongue teased, the deluge broke over the dam of restraint, and there was no turning back.

I plunged my tongue into her mouth, and Dahlia opened for me like the flower she was named for. She gave it back to me, her sudden passion matching mine. It only lasted a minute or so, but time seemed to stop as the world fell away. A few more firm kisses, then a softer one, and she finally pulled back. The dusty pink of her cheeks may have been from lust or embarrassment, I wasn’t sure which. But it was cute as hell. And the sight of her lips, slick and swollen from our kisses, was the sexiest thing I’d ever seen.

She ran a hand through her hair and stammered. “I… uh… wow.”

Reluctantly releasing her, I echoed her words. “Yeah, wow.”
